Hot Girl Summer: 10 Trends To Try Out This Summer
Hey bouquet! So, it's summer! For someone who prefers winter, I'm surprisingly excited. The idea of the sun, sitting by the pool with just my legs in the water since I can't swim and all the dope outfits that I plan to pull off of course. This is why I've decided to share with you guys ten summer trends that I'll definitely be rocking this summer. I apologise for not posting new content for the past two weeks. I wasn't in a good mental space which affected my creativity.
Before we get into this post, congratulations to the Springboks for winning the world cup! To all the black kids out there, Siya Kolisi did it. You can too.
I was never really a fan of crop tops until last year. This is because I still had body image issues and was therefore very self conscious. However, I bought my first crop top last year and have been in love ever since. What I love most about them is the fact that they don't require you to wear a bra. They are also very comfortable and look really good with jeans and shorts too.
I buy most of my crop tops from Mr. Price. They're very affordable and are available in a range of really cute colours. The most recent one I bought was R46 and is mustard in colour. Put yourselves on.
With that said, I think it's important to remember that you DO NOT need a flat tummy in order to wear a crop top. Crop tops are worn by those who want to wear them and not those who "have the body for them." That is why they come in various sizes. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Like with crop tops, I had stopped wearing shorts until late last year despite me liking them. Paper bag shorts are by far my favourite summer trend. They look good in both casual and chic outfits, just like paper bag pants.
I'll be wearing all kinds of shorts this summer but paper bag pants are at the top of the list because this will be the first time I'll be wearing them. For all my beauties on a budget, Mr. Price and Jet have some really cute shorts for very affordable prices.
Just like with crop tops, we are all entitled to wearing shorts in our different sizes. There aren't any rules or exceptions when it comes to fashion.
As someone who hardly wears sneakers, this trend is very close to home. Yes, my toes aren't the cutest but it is what it is. Sandals are so cute and comfortable. They can also be matched with skirts, shorts and dresses which are all waves during this season.
My favourite are strap sandals. They make a better fashion statement than slip on ones in my opinion. They're also more comfortable to walk and run in (I don't even know why I thought about running).
Denim is fashionable for absolutely every season. Denim skirts, just like denim jeans, go well with all kinds of tops. They also go well with all kinds of shoes.
Denim skirts, like all other denim clothes are found in many colours. However, I'll forever consider the blue one as the most fashionable because it can be paired with any colour.
My obsession with shoes can be blamed on heels. I never go shopping without buying a pair of them or at least wishing I could. Block, stiletto, wedge - you name it. Strap heels however are my current obsession.
Every girl should own a black, white, nude (or all of the above) pair of strap heels. These colours can be matched with every single outfit which is what beauty on a budget is all about.
I'm so grateful that off shoulder tops are in fashion because they're an opportunity for me to show off my collar bone! Off shoulder tops are also easy to include in daily outfits. A few examples are:
- off shoulder top, shorts, sandals
- off shoulder top, jeans, heels
- off shoulder top, denim skirt, pair of kicks
- off shoulder top, jeans, heels
- off shoulder top, denim skirt, pair of kicks
Mr. price has off shoulder tops for very affordable prices in various colours and designs. Put yourselves on.
Wearing summer dresses is one of the few things I appreciate about summer. They're light and make it easier to enjoy the summer breeze (if it's not 180° hot that is). Summer dresses are also fashionable. Looking good with both heels and sandals.
PEP has a beautiful range of summer dresses this year. I haven't bought any but I saw an ad a few days ago and can't wait to check them out.
Summer wouldn't be the same if clear lip gloss didn't exist. Clear gloss isn't just a lip moisturiser or accessory, it's a whole mood. It goes well with summer makeup looks and also looks great with a bareface or some light makeup.
Signature Cosmetics, Dischem and Clicks all have amazing ranges of clear lip gloss for under R50. If lip gloss isn't your thing, any other clear lip moisturiser can still play the part.
The pineapple puff is my current favourite natural hairstyle. I still think the afro is dope but there's just something special about the pineapple puff. Apart from being easy to pull off, it also shows off my texture which I absolutely love.
For my pineapple puff, I use string from stockings. I find it easy to use since it stretches. Yarn is said to work just fine as well. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
If you're all about edges, this is also a time to lay they baby hairs and slay them edges.
I don't think it's ever too hot to wear denim jackets. They look good in so many colours and can also be matched into many outfits. One of my favourite combos is a dress paired with a denim jacket. It can look both sophisticated and casual depending on how it's worn.
Mr. Price has some cute and affordable denim jackets.
Unfortunately, due to my receding hairline (which is giving me sleepless nights btw), I won't be doing any box braids hairstyles this summer.
These are just a few summer trends that I'm excited about. Please let me know what you're looking forward to this summer.
Also, don't let anyone stress you out this summer. Block their number and keep it moving. Take care.
